Good Morning MBL Families! Please see the following information regarding the baseball season.
2020 “Safe Play: Back to the Diamond” Update
The Minnesota coalition of statewide youth baseball and softball organizations has been actively working to seek guidance and approval from the Minnesota Department of Health, Commissioner Tomes, and the administration related to our plan. We did gain some momentum and traction with our Safe Play: Back to the Diamond guidelines related to our portion of the plan about games/competition. However, as you might imagine, the events that have taken place over the past few days in Minneapolis and surrounding areas have turned the entire administration’s attention and resources to those situations.
Therefore, we are not able to provide you any update related to our goal of a June 15 start date.
With great optimism, our coalition believes that the June 1 date to allow organized sports with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidance to begin practice/training/tryouts will allow members of the Minnesota youth baseball and softball communities the ability to fulfill some of the healthy benefits in sports.
Here are links to some resources for your association:
• The MDH Guidance for Social Distancing in Youth Sports released on May 22, 2020
• COVID-19 Resources for your association
We intend to provide an announcement on the 2020 spring/summer season no later than 4:00pm on Tuesday, June 2. This announcement will alert you whether baseball/softball is given the green light to move forward with games on or around June 15, or whether the current season will be canceled. If the latter is the case, programming options will then be made available for July-October.
Thank you for your patience during these unprecedented and heartbreaking times.
